De Binnentuin

Quote from the artist(s):

I will be forever grateful for the fact that I got to play in de tuin on the 7th of July 2023. The booking was quite last-minute (it was part of De Zomernacht, which revealed the lineup just 2 days before the events) and a lot was going through my mind the week before. Since the ban on smoking area's in clubs, De Binnentuin served an extra purpose as the smoking area of De School, especially during summer. Because of this, I found it quite hard to decide what kind of vibe I would go for during my preparations: should I cater to the 'chill' vibe, since you know that people are going to De Binnentuin to have a smoke and have conversations, or should I go for a more clubby approach. When I asked if there were any preferences from the programmer's side, I got carte blanche, what maybe made it even more difficult. Ultimately, I decided to pack my record bag as full as I could and just see how the night would develop. It was a hot summer night, and De Binnentuin was packed with people having a smoke and hanging out. Ruta (Genyten) played before me, and she had an amazing chill triphop kinda vibe going on for her first 2 hours, and in her last hour, she gradually picked up the pace and people started to move as well. Before I started at 3am, I wandered around and there was a mixed vibe of people wanting to dance and people wanting to just have a smoke. So when I started, I tried to see if I could keep people engaged dancing. My set went all over the place: starting out dubby, testing if I could take it clubby, and 15 minutes in the memory just becomes a blur, I literally can't remember what I played. I didn't have an official end time, my set was supposed to be from 3 until at least 5:30, but with an open end. Because of this, I didn't know when I was supposed to stop and what I was going to build towards to, but I had a record bag full of music with me, so I just kept on playing and switching through genres until the sun came up. I ended up playing 10 mile stereo by Beach House (quite an emotional song) at the end of my set. The sun had already risen, I don't remember what time it was. I was feeling exhausted and grateful and I was surrounded by my friends. Coincidentally, just yesterday a friend of mine shared a snippet from a radio show he did on instagram. he was being interviewed, and he talked about me playing this track, and he said that that was one of the instances that he cried in the club, and I just found out yesterday. This story just only added to the fact that this was an experience I'll probably never forget.
